Every registered domain has at least 2 Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain address to the servers of a specific hosting provider. That way, you have got both your website and your emails handled by the very same service provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), on the other hand, there is a variety of other records, such as A and MX. The first one reveals which server handles the site for a given domain address and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one reveals which server handles the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For instance, when you enter a domain name in your Internet browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you could be directed to the servers of another company if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain address. Having independent records for the site and the emails means that you could have your site and your e-mails with two different providers if you would like.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a shared hosting account with our company and you would like to point either your website or your emails to another service provider, it will take you literally simply 2 mouse clicks to do so. Our Hepsia Control Panel comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you'll be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default 2, it's not going to take more than a couple of clicks either to add them. You could also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a particular MX record will have. The propagation of any record that you change or create will not take more than several hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that reveals how long a record will remain active after it is modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

With the semi-dedicated servers that we provide, you'll have complete control over the records of all domain addresses and subdomains that you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records each one of them has using the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel and modifying any record requires just a couple of mouse clicks. If you decide to change your web or e-mail hosting provider, you can change the required record and point your domain name to the other company for one of the services, while you still carry on using the other one through us. You could also keep the main domain name here, while you modify the A record of only one of its subdomains. If you're editing the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the default 2 that we have, you could create them with ease and set a different priority for every single one.
