Transferring an existing domain entails switching the company that handles the registration service, so after the transfer itself, you will have to manage things like renewal payments or DNS entry updates through the new company. The transfer procedure itself is standard with most universal and country-specific domain extensions. Certain country-code extensions are more specific and entail different procedures, but in the general case transferring a domain involves several necessary procedures and one of them is unlocking the domain name. The lock is a security option, which is being adopted by more and more domain name registry operators. It’s a standard feature supported by all generic TLDs. If a domain name is locked, it will be impossible to initiate a transfer process, so no one can even attempt to snatch your domain name. The domain lock can be removed only through the account where the domain name is registered and all new domains that support this functionality are locked by default when they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Shared Hosting

Locking and unlocking a domain registered through our company is very easy. This can be done through the Hepsia Control Panel, which comes with our shared hosting, and will require literally two clicks. All your domain names will be listed alphabetically in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel and next to those whose extensions support the registrar lock option, you will see a padlock-like logo. Click on it once and you’ll notice the domain name’s present status. Click for the second time and you will change its status. The update will propagate immediately without the need for you or for us to do anything else for the status to be ‘refreshed’ on WHOIS lookup sites, so you can continue with the transfer process straight away.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Servers

In case you have registered a domain name through us and you want to transfer it away, you can quickly unlock it through the very same Hepsia Control Panel, which you use to administer your semi-dedicated server account. All registrations will be displayed in alphabetical order in your account and you will see a tiny padlock icon on the right side of each domain name there, as long as its extension supports the registrar lock option. You can find out if the domain name is locked or not by clicking on this icon and modify the current status by clicking on it once again. You can then continue and initiate the domain transfer right away without having to wait for the status to be changed on WHOIS lookup sites, as the change will propagate instantly without you or us having to do anything else.
